<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">En ce qui me concerne, ce sont les plans de métro. Original pour certains, inusité pour d'autres... Et pas n'importe quel métro... le plus ancien au monde, le doyen des métros... celui de Londres, construit à l'ère victorienne et qui a fêté ses 150 ans en 2013. Il s'agit d'une collection unique en son genre et il me fait plaisir de la faire partager de cette façon.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">Tous les plans montrés dans cette collection m'appartiennent à l'exception des esquisses de Beck en 1931-32. J'en possède près de 350, tous originaux et publiés par London Transport et ses compagnies précédentes.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Et quel anniversaire! Le plus vieux métro du monde célèbre un siècle et demi d'histoire tout au long de l'année 2013. Le premier fait marquant aura lieu le Mercredi 9 Janvier 2013, date de pré-inauguration qui 150 ans jour pour jour marqua le début des nouvelles opérations de la Metropolitan Railway entre Paddington et Farringdon Street desservant 7 nouvelles stations. L'inauguration officielle quant à elle aura lieu le lendemain, le 10 Janvier 1863.</span><br />

(L'inauguration pour le public aura lieu le lendemain, le Samedi 10 Janvier 1863). Une locomotive de type <i>Wasp</i> tire le convoi sur des rails de la Great Western Railway de calibrage 2-4-OT.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">Sur cette image on reconnait les puits de lumière qui jadis permettaient à la lumière de l'extérieur de pénétrer sur les quais. Ces puits existent toujours mais ont depuis longtemps été bouchés en surface. La station Baker Street de nos jours n'a pratiquement pas changé au niveau de l'aspect lui-même. Seuls les affichages électroniques et la signalétique sur les panneaux de direction sont contemporains. Elle a été rénovée entre 1983-84.</span><br />

Les éditions précédentes datant probablement de la fin des années 1850 et entre 1860-1862 devraient quant à elles indiquer <i>"Metropolitan Railway - Under Construction / Now being constructed"</i>.</span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">Ce plan fut proposé sur eBay au printemps 2010, un véritable <i>Graal</i> pour quiconque collectionnant les plans de métro. Manque de chance le jour de la fin de l'enchère, mon système Auction Sniper ne s'était pas activé et par conséquent je suis passé à côté! L'enchère s'était finie autour de £180. Par contre la chance était en ma faveur en Octobre 2012 et j'ai pu remporter cette fois-ci le tant convoité plan!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">Comme montré sur les photos, ce plan a été remarquablement conservé durant 150 ans. Aucune déchirure ou tâches sur la couverture ou le plan (toilé), la toile en arrière est presque intacte et a conservé sa couleur d'origine blanc ivoire, le papier sur lequel a été imprimé le plan quant à lui est tout à fait splendide. Une pièce de collection très rare.</span></div>

On remarque bien le tracé en pointillé qui complètera des années plus tard le <i>"Inner Circle"</i>. </span><br />

À cette époque, la District Railway avait ses propres publications. On était loin de parler de plan format "poche" car ce dernier mesurait 106 x 66 cm (donc difficile à scanner aujourd'hui).</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';"><br /></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';">La toute première ligne, la Metropolitan Railway, a ouvert le Samedi 10 Janvier 1863 sur 7 stations entre Paddington et Farringdon St.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';">Dès 1865 le réseau a commencé son expansion puis la seconde ligne, la District Railway fut crée. C'est cette dernière qui permettra de compléter cette ligne circulaire qui deviendra bien des années plus tard la Circle Line que nous connaissons aujourd'hui.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';">En rouge sont représentées les Metropolitan et District Railways, en noir toutes les voies de chemin de fer de l'époque, appartenant à des compagnies privées. Certains tronçons seront utilisés bien des années plus tard pour l'expansion de lignes qui feront partie à part entière du début de l'épopée du London Underground. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">On y découvre pour la première fois la toute première ligne de métro souterraine électrifiée au monde, appelée <i><b>Deep Level Tube</b></i> en raison de sa profondeur, et où les trains circulent dans des tunnels circulaires unidirectionnels. Cette troisième ligne est la City & South London Railway (C&SLR) et connaîtra un vif succès. Son terminus au nord s'arrête à la station King William Street. Cette station fut ouverte au public le 18 Décembre 1890 et fermée définitivement le 24 Février 1900 en raison d'un manque de succès et aussi un accès peu facile pour les trains devant passer sous la Tamise avant d'entamer une courbe dans le tunnel très prononcée et de fort dénivelé avant d'arriver en station. </span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">King William Street fur la toute première station souterraine au monde et ce plan est un des rares à en faire mention. De nos jours cette station est classée comme une station abandonnée. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">La dernière fois qu'elle fut ouverte pour des journalistes remonte au début des années 1930 avant la démolition du bâtiment qui abritait l'entrée de la station, puis par la suite un autre édifice, le <i>Regis House</i> fut construit et de nos jours, le seul accès possible à cette station se fait par une bouche d'égout menant aux couloirs de l'ancienne station. </span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'trebuchet ms';">Du reste, plus rien ne restait apparent dans cette station, les quais (en bois à l'époque) ont tous été démantelés.</span></div>

London Undergroundhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01593182135880093542noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5340612366187037532.post-14242846588515755302011-03-08T14:19:00.000-08:002012-01-28T20:20:12.532-08:001907 - London Underground Electric Railways<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';">Voici un exemplaire de petits plans proposés en 1907 alors que les lignes Bakerloo, Piccadilly et Northern étaient nouvellement ouvertes au public un an auparavant.</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';">Plusieurs d'entre-eux avaient le nom d'une station différente mais le fond restait identique.</span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'trebuchet ms';">En l'ouvrant on pouvait avoir des informations sur les différents horaires des trains au départ de chaque terminus et le temps de déplacement entre chaque station. Au recto figurait les trois nouvelles lignes en plus de celles déjà existantes (Metropolitan et District). Lorsque l'on repliait la cartonnette, on pouvait créer un effet visuel avec une rame de métro (une fois le volet replié) ou bien une station sans rame (volet ouvert). À l'origine, ce plan fut destiné à des guides de tourisme depuis que le métro est devenu un moyen de transport commode et bon marché pour rejoindre tous les sites touristiques en ville.<br />
Chaque site ou curiosité est référée sur le plan par un numéro et la liste est indiquée au dos du plan.<br />
Le plan est de style géographique, sobre, mais clair et facile à utiliser. On remarque que la Tamise est indiquée, toutefois son nom n'est pas apparent. Les plans de ce style cartonné et toilé referont leur apparition dans le courant des années 1920 avec entre autres les célèbres éditions de Fred Stingemore entre 1925 et 1932.</span></div>

Une belle pièce de collection.</span></div>
