Au matin du Dimanche 3 Septembre 1939 à 11:15, à travers toute la Grande-Bretagne a été écouté à la radio le discours du Premier Ministre Neville Chamberlain.
Il a commencé par cette phrase devenue célèbre :
"I am speaking to you from the Cabinet Room at No.10 Downing Street. This morning, the British Ambassador in Berlin handed the German government a final note, stating that unless the British government heard from them by 11 o'clock that they were prepared at once to withdraw their troops from Poland, a state of war would exist between us. I have to tell you now that no such undertaking has been received, and that consequently this country is at war with Germany".
La Seconde Guerre Mondiale a maintenant commencé depuis quelques mois lorsque fut édité ce plan (No.1 1940). Contrairement à la Première Guerre Mondiale, la qualité du papier cartonné utilisé n'a pas changé. Par contre on remarque que toutes les lignes sont de même couleur sépia.
La couverture montre les quartiers où sont désignées les stations marquées d'une croix rouge et qui serviront de refuge pour la population en cas de raid allemand.
La Bakerloo Line est dorénavant ouverte entre Baker Street et Stanmore.
